The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) organizes a meeting for donors and International Agencies on the Population, Housing and Establishments Census 2017

Ramallah – 13/09/2017 – The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) organized a Donors Meeting with the cooperation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the participation of Representatives from the donor community, UN Agencies and International Institutions to discuss the recent developments on the Population, Housing and Establishments Census 2017 in addition to exploring means of possible cooperation and support for the project.

Ms. Ola Awad, President of PCBS and the National Director of the census warmly welcomed the participants and expressed her appreciation for their fundamental support to the census and important partnership. Moreover, Ms. Awad expressed her gratitude to the efforts of PCBS and the Palestinian Government in addition to the cooperation of the Civil and the International Society who strive to complete the third Palestinian Population, Housing and Establishments Census 2017.   

Following the opening speech, PCBS provided a presentation on the progress made on the census phases in Palestine in addition to the challenges faced in the implementation process as well as the challenge of securing the required funds for the completion of the project. Furthermore, the meeting signified the fact that the census will provide around 10,000 temporary job opportunities for fresh graduates to carry out the different phases of the project implementation, not to mention the extensive efforts of undertaking the advocacy and media campaign for the project.

Ms. Awad also informed the participants that Palestine will be hosting the 9th meeting for the High Level Group for for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-Building for statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLG-PCCB) during 7-9/11/2017. Ms. Awad called for the engagement and support of the International Community in this meeting especially that it is considered a huge national achievement on the international level.
