characteristics for each survey. The design of the 1997 questionnaire takes into account the
major economic variables pertaining to the sector examined and the needs to be met to
compile the National Accounts for Palestine.

Description The central statistical offices in most countries lay heavy emphasis on constructing sound data base for all activities within the industrial sector. The PCBs initiated, starting from the reference year 1994, the economic surveys series. It includes, in addition to the industrial survey, surveys on services, internal trade construction-contractors, and transport and storage sectors. The sampling frame for the different economic surveys was based basically on the findings of the 1997 Establishment Census conducted by The PCBS.

Description Construction activities substantially contribute to the Gross Domestic Product in the Palestinian economy. PCBS began the economic survey series in 1994.The series includes, in addition to the Construction-Contractors Survey, surveys on industry, services, internal trade, and transport and storage sectors. The sampling frame for the various economic surveys for 1997 was based on findings of the 1997 Establishments Census conducted by PCBS in conjunction with the Population and Housing Census for 1997. Also, a field survey was conducted to ensure accuracy and complete data on these new enterprises
