Overview
Statistical data are needed to be used in the analysis of economical and social structures of countries. However, providing the same meaning among users and also in international areas requires that statistical data would be arranged on the base of certain standards. Since we live in information age and the globalization has been aimed recently, communication of information users (who speak different languages or have different purposes) would be possible only with a common language constituted by means of classifications and codification systems.
The main structures of classifications have been developed by cooperation between the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), International Labour Organization (ILO), International Monetary Fund(IMF), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Culture Organization (UNESCO) and other authorized organizations in related areas.
With the condition of providing the transition between national classifications which have been produced to meet national requirements and classifications approved in international areas, countries are given the right to develop their own classifications.
