Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) releases Statistical Report on Environmental Survey of Educational Sector, 2014

More than one-third of schools in Palestine are exposed to noise and smells Very often and Sometimes

The results of the survey for 2014 showed that 39.8% of schools, 44.0% of higher education establishments, and 25.0% of kindergartens are very often and sometimes exposed to noise. Also, 36.5% of schools, 28.0% of higher education establishments, and 20.4% of kindergartens are very often and sometimes exposed to smells.

Around 217 thousand cubic meters of water are consumed monthly by educational establishments in Palestine

Data revealed that the total amount of water consumed in the educational sector in Palestine was 216.7 thousand cubic meters per month.

Also, the monthly average quantity of water consumed in higher education establishment in 2014 was 630.6 cubic meters, while was 58.9 cubic meters in schools, and 32.5 cubic meters in kindergartens in Palestine.

Data revealed that 92.0% of higher education establishments, 93.4% of schools and 92.1% of kindergartens in Palestine are supplied with water from a water network.

More than half of schools in Palestine are not connected to wastewater network

The survey results showed that 45.3% of schools in Palestine dispose of wastewater through the wastewater network and 40.1% use a porous cesspit.  Data showed that 51.5% of kindergartens in Palestine dispose of wastewater through the wastewater network. In higher education establishments in Palestine, 92.0% dispose of wastewater through the wastewater network and 8.0% use a porous cesspit.

Around 95 tons of solid waste are produced daily in educational establishments in Palestine

The daily total of solid waste generated from educational establishments in Palestine was 94.9 tons: 57.7 tons per day in the West Bank and 37.2 tons per day in the Gaza Strip.

It is  worth to mention that data did not cover the period of the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip.
