Consumer Price Index (CPI) during January, 01/2025; Increase in the West Bank and Decrease in Gaza Strip
With the announcement of the ceasefire in Gaza Strip, the consumer price index in Gaza Strip declined, recording a decrease of 53.27% during January 2025 compared to December 2024, while the index recorded an increase in the West Bank** by 0.34%, and in Jerusalem J1* by 0.44%, due to these changes CPI in Palestine decreased by 32.56%.
The changes in Palestinian CPI during January 2025 were traced back to changes in prices of the following expenditure sub groups compared with previous month:

The Palestinian CPI during January 2025 increased by 22.77% compared with January 2024 (75.48% in Gaza Strip, 1.90% Jerusalem J1*, and by 0.16% in the West Bank**).

*Data represent those parts of Jerusalem, which were annexed by Israeli Occupation in 1967.
**Data exclude those parts of Jerusalem, which were annexed by Israeli Occupation in 1967.
Due to the Israeli occupation aggression against Gaza Strip since October 7th, 2023, the data for January 2025 were collected through direct phone contact with PCBS fieldworkers working in Gaza Strip. They focused on the prices for basic commodities purchased by them and those that are of high relative importance within the main major groups of expenditure in the consumer price index.
The prices of goods and services collected in New Israeli Shekels (NIS). The monthly average exchange rate of the US Dollar during January 2025 is (3.61 NIS/$).
The price level in the Gaza Strip is weighted, with the price in northern and central Gaza constituting 0.25% of the total average price, while in Rafah, Khan Younis, and Deir al-Balah it constitutes 0.75%, as most purchases made in the central and southern areas of Gaza Strip.
