Preliminary Results of National Health Accounts in Palestine* at Current Prices for 2010-2011
The preliminary results showed that total expenditure on health at current prices increased during 2010-2011: where the total expenditure reached USD 1,201 million in 2011 compared to USD 1,074.7 million in 2010.
The percentage of total health expenditure to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices for Palestine decreased from 13.7% in 2010 to 12.3% in 2011.
Total health expenditure per capita reached USD 307 in 2011 compared to USD 282 in 2010.
Health Expenditure** According to Source of Funding
The contribution of the household sector to total expenditure was 40.9% in 2010 and 43.1% in 2011, while Contributions by the governmental sector (through the Ministries of Finance and Health, etc) were 35.3% in 2011 compared to 36.3% in 2010.
Health Expenditure** According to Function of Health Care
Total expenditure on health is classified by function of health care as well as by the source of funding. The primary results showed that the percentage distribution of total expenditure on health treatment services for secondary health care (services of curative care), in-patient health care and out-patient health care totalled 64.9% in 2011 and 62.6% in 2010.
The contribution of medical goods provided to out-patients was 15.9% in 2011 and 17.0% in 2010.
Health Expenditure** According to Health Care Provider
The contribution of general hospitals was 28.2% of total expenditure on health in 2010 and 30.5% in 2011. The governmental sector recorded the highest contribution within general hospitals with 54.2% in 2011 compared to 57.9% in 2010.
Providers of primary health care (ambulatory health care) recorded a significant increase since health expenditure on this category grew to 24.2% during 2011 compared to 20.6% during 2010.
