Preliminary Results of Palestinian Health Accounts in Palestine* at Current Prices for 2013


The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, presents the annual Palestinian Health Accounts report for 2013.


The preliminary results showed an increase in the total current expenditure on health** to attain USD 1,347.4 million compared to USD 1,261.9 in 2012.


The percentage of total health expenditure to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices for Palestine decreased from 11.8% in 2012*** to 10.9% in 2013.


Total health expenditure per capita was USD 304.8 in 2013 compared to USD 311.8 in 2012.



Health Expenditure by Source of Funding

The contribution of the household sector to total health expenditure was 37.7% in 2013 and 39.8% in 2012; government contributions (by the Ministries of Finance and Health, etc.) constituted 43.3% in 2013 compared to 38.7% in 2012.



Health Expenditure by Function of Health Care

The primary results showed that the percentage distribution of total expenditure on health by function of care for the curative care services was the highest contribution and it totalled 65.5% in 2013 and 65.8% in 2012.


The contribution of medical goods provided to outpatients was 16.6% in 2013 and 16.5% in 2012.


Health Expenditure by Health Care Provider


The contribution of general hospitals to total expenditure on health was 28.4% in 2012 and 29.3% in 2013. The governmental sector recorded the highest contribution within general hospitals with 55.6% in 2012 compared to 60.5% in 2013.   Providers of primary health care (ambulatory health care) recorded 23.6% during 2013 compared to 25.0% during 2012.



*Data exclude those parts of Jerusalem annexed  by Israel in 1967.
