The Consumer Price Index during January, 01/2024

 

Consumer Price Index (CPI) continues to rise for the fourth consecutive month under the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip, where it recorded an increase of 11%

 

The overall Consumer Price Index CPI for Palestine during January 2024 recorded a sharp increase by 3.27% compared with December 2023 (11.41% in Gaza Strip, by 0.26% in Jerusalem J1*, and by 0.15% in the West Bank).

 

The changes in Palestinian CPI during January 2024 were traced back to changes in prices of the following expenditure sub groups compared with previous month:

The Palestinian CPI during January 2024 increased by 19.00% compared with January 2023 (71.70% in Gaza Strip, 5.50% in the West Bank**, and by 4.38% Jerusalem J1*).

*Data represent those parts of Jerusalem, which were annexed by Israeli Occupation in 1967.

 

**Data exclude those parts of Jerusalem, which were annexed by Israeli Occupation in 1967.

Due to the Israeli occupation aggression against Gaza Strip since October 7th, 2023, the data for January 2024, were collected through direct phone contact with PCBS fieldworkers working in Gaza Strip focusing on the prices for basic commodities purchased by them and those are of high relative importance within the main major groups of expenditure in the consumer price index.

The prices of goods and services were collected in New Israeli Shekels (NIS).  The monthly average exchange rate of the US Dollar during January 2024 is (3.70 NIS/$).
